Hide All The Benefits of Navtrak 10 GPS Fleet Tracking Myths

Taking GPS Fleet Tracking Services Far Beyond the Map

Any fleet tracking system can show you your vehicles on screen - but that's just the beginning. Navtrak will help you apply the insights gained from accurate, real-time vehicle activity data to make every area of your operation more efficient.

At Navtrak, we like to call our highly-accurate GPS tracking data "actionable information." You can use the information you gain from Navtrak to verify payroll, plan sales force routes, provide instant service/delivery verification, and more.

Navtrak also offers integration services if you're interested in incorporating our real-time vehicle tracking data into existing business applications to help extend the capabilities of your organization.

Make Every Vehicle A Profit Center

Use Navtrak's fleet tracking service to plan, optimize and analyze your company's efficiency in the field.

Employee salaries typically account for 80% of a company's budget. Can you really afford to have mobile workers who aren't performing at their peak? With accurate vehicle tracking data from Navtrak, you'll be able to make the critical decisions that will improve driver productivity and have a dramatic impact on your bottom line.

Pay Only for Productive Time with GPS Fleet Tracking

Imagine not only cutting your payroll costs dramatically, but also knowing that you're only paying for actual work performed by your drivers? Navtrak's fleet tracking service delivers the information you need to address both unnecessary overtime and time-on-site verification.

Stuart Aust, owner and operator of Bug Doctor Pest Control, started using Navtrak on a weekly basis to verify payroll, and in the first month discovered they had cut their overtime expenses "from $6,000 to $2,400 - over a year that means we save $40,000 in overtime alone." (Read more stories of how Navtrak customers use fleet tracking to improve their business.)

Use GPS Fleet Tracking to Analyze and Eliminate Wasteful Costs

Navtrak's accurate, dependable vehicle tracking information is used by thousands of companies just like yours to help resolve customer billing disputes, analyze cost/benefit ratios and monitor wasteful billing/spending for field services. All via a simple web-based fleet tracking application that's accessible 24/7, from any browser.

The vehicle tracking data we collect can also help your organization to manage interstate fuel tax calculation and reporting, job time and materials expensing, customer billing, and fuel consumption analysis.

Satisfy Your Customers with GPS Vehicle Tracking

Real-time vehicle tracking and activity information from Navtrak gives you the ability to handle customer questions and resolve disputes before they become problems or patterns for your business. Many of our customers actually "sell" their fleet tracking capabilities because they know it gives them enhanced responsiveness and ability to satisfy customer requests - in short, a competitive advantage.

Navtrak provides your customer service personnel with the ability to instantly verify service and/or delivery, accurately estimate time to jobs/deliveries, find the closest vehicles to important locations in just a few clicks, validate time spent on jobs, and vastly improve response times to emergencies.

GPS Fleet Tracking Protects Your People - and Your Reputation

Liability is a huge concern for any organization with vehicles and/or equipment in use in the field. You can't be with them all the time, but you can know exactly where they've been and what they've done - or, haven't done - with Navtrak's GPS tracking service.

Navtrak customers use our data to protect themselves from false accident claims, legal suits, customer disputes - just about any situation you can think of. Our accurate fleet tracking data provides organizations with a true picture of their field activities, and documented proof of vehicle locations, stop times, stop durations and more.

If you've ever considered whether GPS fleet tracking was right for your organization, chances are you've thought of or heard some of these common objections. The responses that follow each "myth" listed below are all based on actual user experience.

1. We don't need GPS fleet tracking because we trust our people.

GPS fleet tracking is about more than monitoring your employees - it's about reducing operating costs and inefficiencies in the field in order to grow your business. Vehicle tracking systems have been proven to reduce fuel and maintenance costs, increase the efficiency of routing and dispatching, provide safety and security for drivers and improve customer service.

2. All of our people are going to quit if we get vehicle tracking.

According to our experience with thousands of organizations over the years, this is simply not true. In fact, once field workers experience this type of solution, they very often come to depend on it - for routing information, roadside assistance, verification of work performed, etc. And in many cases, GPS fleet tracking eliminates time-consuming paperwork and provides security for both themselves and their cargo. These and many other driver-specific benefits are often overlooked when the decision to purchase a vehicle tracking solution is being considered.

3. GPS fleet tracking systems are complicated to install and complicated to use.

Most fleet tracking systems are comprised of the same basic components: a GPS receiver installed within each vehicle, and some kind of software that organizes and displays the information gathered. Both installation and usage of these systems are actually fairly simple.

A reputable, experienced fleet tracking vendor will:

  • work to make the implementation of the fleet tracking solution as seamless as possible
  • guide you in interpreting the data you receive and apply it to improve efficiency in field
  • provide you with knowledgeable, accessible technical support to cover any service issues that arise

This is why your relationship with your vehicle tracking provider is always much more important than the tools they provide.

4. Vehicle tracking is unnecessary - I can keep track of my fleet using cell phones/handhelds.

Though useful as communication tools, cell phones/handhelds cannot provide the kind of information that's really useful to fleet managers: real-time vehicle location, engine status, history of stops and stop times, and other metrics you need to know such as mileage, fuel consumption or speeding patterns. In fact, cell phones and handhelds have proven to be an inefficient way of managing a mobile workforce because they can so easily be turned off, left at home, dropped/damaged, etc. And when they are functioning correctly, they are usually with a person, so that you end up tracking your people rather than your mobile assets.

5. All fleet tracking systems are essentially the same - it's the data that's important, not the provider.

The reality is that most users of GPS fleet tracking services don't realize the full impact that real-time information can have upon their organization until after they start using the system on a regular basis. This is precisely why your choice of fleet tracking providers is so important: many of them are content to set you up with basic vehicle tracking capabilities, but don't commit to helping you leverage this powerful technology to transform the way you do business in both the short and long term. (If you're currently evaluating one or more GPS fleet tracking providers, ask yourself: how much interest have they shown in actually learning about your business and its specific requirements - and goals?) Navtrak's approach is different.

6. A GPS vehicle tracking system is another product I can buy to help make my business more productive.

This myth uncovers a widely-held misunderstanding about fleet tracking technology. GPS vehicle tracking should not be viewed as a product, as if it were an accessory you can purchase for your fleet. Rather, vehicle tracking is a service you are, in effect, subscribing to - delivering information you can't collect yourself, but know would greatly increase the overall productivity and profitability of your business. All GPS fleet tracking vendors will ask you to sign a service agreement, typically for 3-4 years. So the question becomes, which vendor will I trust to help me manage my valuable mobile assets for the next several years? Service is the crucial factor when it comes to effective fleet tracking.

7. My company can't afford a fleet tracking system.

This is an understandable concern, since GPS fleet tracking systems typically require an investment in hardware for each vehicle and in some kind of mapping/reporting application for use in the office. However, these systems have been proven to identify those inefficiencies and practices in the field that are already costing you hundreds, or even thousands of dollars every month - excess overtime, inefficient routing, side trips, excess engine idling, reckless driving, etc. The money you're paying for these inefficiencies in most cases far exceeds the monthly investment required for a vehicle tracking service. So in a very real sense, you're paying for it already! Most Navtrak customers achieve a return on investment within the first few months of using the system, due to savings in overtime costs, fuel expenditures, lower insurance premiums, reduced vehicle maintenance, and more.

8. GPS fleet tracking is an unproven technology.

GPS technology itself (the ability to locate and track objects at any time, in real-time, using satellites and wireless communications) has been effectively used for decades. As far as its application to commercial enterprises goes, the effectiveness of GPS fleet tracking systems in terms of increasing productivity and reducing operational costs has been documented repeatedly by reputable third-party sources. Navtrak has been tracking thousands of fleets across the country for over a decade, and over 90% of our customers renew services with us when their contracts expire. Any organization that is actually using this technology will vouch for its effectiveness.

9. Our company is so busy, we'd never use a vehicle tracking system.

Actually, a GPS vehicle tracking system makes perfect sense for a busy mobile workforce, since it helps to better manage fleet activities and presents a clear picture of all that is going on in the field at any given time. The busier a mobile operation is, the more critical it is to have accurate information -- to ensure that money is not being wasted, work is being done on time and customers are being served effectively. Business managers know that high work volume and tight time frames can lead to problems (and angry customers) if jobs aren't being effectively scheduled and kept track of. A GPS fleet tracking system is an extremely effective tool to help do that, especially when combined with work order tracking, remote data capture and other mobile field service capabilities.

10. GPS fleet tracking doesn't make sense for a small company.

Any business with multiple vehicles to keep track of - whether it's 4 or 40 or 400 - will benefit from having access to accurate, real-time information from the field. If you depend on your vehicles to get most of your business done, you need to know where they are now, where they've been and what they're doing. Fleet tracking systems tend to pay for themselves quickly due to savings in operational costs and improved efficiency, leading to additional jobs completed per day. Businesses that take advantage of this technology usually experience growth, because of the increased revenue and positive word-of-mouth generated by the rapid customer response real-time information affords. Whether you're managing a handful of service technicians or a fleet of hundreds of delivery trucks, real-time, location-based information will help you to make the most of your field operations and take your business to another level.
